Green Isle Camogie club is the ONLY south London based camogie team. We’re a very friendly, sociable bunch who all happen to enjoy a spot of camogie. We are always looking for new players. Anyone from absolute beginners up to experienced players are very welcome.

If you are not familiar with camogie here’s a quick out line. Camogie is a Irish stick-and-ball team sport played by women. It is almost identical to the game of hurling played by men. The basic object of the game is score more points or goals than the opposing team. There are H shaped goal posts at each end of the field (similar to rugby but with a net under the crossbar). A point is scored by sending the sliotar (ball, pronounced “slitter”) between the oppositions goal posts above the cross bar. If the ball goes below the crossbar, a goal, worth three points, is scored.

Camogie is a sport that is played by women. It is popularly known as Irish stick and ball team sport that is identical to the sport named hurling played by men. At present this Camogie sport that is known as fastest field sport all across the world is played by 100,000 women from Ireland and other parts of the countries. Well to reckon success of Ladies after the 2016 season now it’s high time to get stuck into training and aim for the upcoming Intermediate and Junior titles. So far Green Isle Camogie club members had competed and won the plate in Erin go Bragh’s annual tournament and again all set their sights on the Intermediate and Junior trophies that are about to happen in March. Currently this club is giving training to the ladies twice a week approximately 1.5 to 2 hours in duration, Mondays on 7.00PM and Saturday’s on 12pm at Peckham Rye Park, without clashing the match. As said earlier, Green Isle Camogie Club is the Still Only South London Camogie Club whose team had won the last tournament. Well it was their pride to be part of 2016 Erin Go Bragh’s tournament Plate champions, 2012 & 2013 Junior League Champions, 2012 Junior Championship Finalist, 2012 Tara 7s Tournament Champions. They are very friendly, sociable provide bunch of joy to all happening and at the same time enjoy the sport of Camogie.
